ARTHUR REINHOLD BERGER

Rev. Richard Weber will conduct funeral rites on Saturday, February 27, at 11 a.m., at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville, for Arthur R Berger 92, who passed away following a brief illness on Monday evening, February 22, 1988. Sharon Nemitz and Janice Mayer will provide music. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday evening, February 26, 6-9 p.m. at Gesche Funeral Home and at the church Saturday morning, one hour prior to services.

Arthur Reinhold Berger was born January 9, 1896 in Watertown, WI, to William and Augusta (Krueger) Berger. His family came to Neillsville while he as a young boy. After his education at St. John’s Lutheran School he worked until entering the U.S. Army on February 18, 1918. During WWI he served in the European Theatre and was discharged during May 1919.

On August 17, 1925, he married Elsie I. Gehrt in Winona, MN. They moved to Wisconsin Rapids where Art was employed at Brauer’s Clothing Store. Several years later, they returned to Neillsville and he purchased the local Brauer’s Clothing Store, which he operated for many years. Following his retirement, he continued to reside in Neillsville.

Surviving are his wife Elsie and son, Arvid of Neillsville, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His parents, a son Robert, two brothers and two sisters, predeceased him.
