"OUR OLD NEIGHBORS"

It would seem from the following item taken from the Park Falls Herald that the Roddis Lumber and Veneer Co. still own some big pine timber. The item reads: Large loads of green pine logs in northern Wisconsin are almost a thing of the past but Harry Bryden the long, lean foreman for the Roddis Lumber & Veneer Co. at camp 2 succeeded in landing a couple of the beauties last week. Bryden had been acting rather strange for some time and appeared as if something was tickling him, but the mystery was solved last Wednesday when "Old Gumbo" and his mate came on the landing with 20 pine logs that scaled 8230 feet and in order to prove that it was not much of a feat followed it with another load of 31 logs that scaled 6310 feet. These loads were hauled two and one-half miles with a single team of horses a logging sled, and his mate. - Marshfield News.

Thomas R. Begley arrived from Milwaukee, Wednesday, to spend a few days with his family. - Rib Lake Herald.

Many of our readers will remember Gordon Scafe, brother of Rev. C. R. Scafe who was pastor of the Baptist church here a few years ago, but is now located in a flourishing pastorate at Fruita, Colorado. From letters recently received from Gordon, who is in Field, British Columbia, we learn that he is employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company in a good $1800 a year position with fair prospects of a raise. He says they have had some very cold weather there, as low as 50 and 65 degrees below zero, while 200 miles west of him flowers are in bloom and grass is green. Field is in the highest part of the Rocky Mountains, which no doubt accounts for the low temperature. Gordon says he expects to visit Greenwood before many months roll by. He extends best wishes to his Greenwood friends.
