William M. Ormond, who had been in ill health for several months, passed away at his home on the north side Monday, April 24, aged 69 years, 5 months and 16 days.

He was born in Slade Lane, Haverford West, Pembroke Shire, South Wales. His father was a gardener and before coming to America the son was associated with him in his work.

In 1885 he came to the United States, and located in Milwaukee, where he remained three years, engaging in carpenter work and painting and for a time was coachman.

On Nov. 22, 1888, he was united in marriage with Miss Matilda Offerman of Milwaukee, who survives him. They moved to northern Michigan, where Mr. Ormond secured a position as engineer in a mine. He followed this work for a time and then moved to Dodge County where he resumed painting.

In 1896 he moved with his family to Clark County and started farming. Securing 40 acres of wild land in the town of Weston he built a small house and gradually opened a clearing, helping to support his family by carpenter work and work in lumber camps where he was employed eleven winters. Later he bought 80 acres more lane, erected good farm buildings and developed a fine farm. Passing a civil service examination as an engineer he secured a position as such at the state hospital for the Insane at Medota where he was employed for eight years.

In 1928 Mr. and Mrs. Ormond moved to Neillsville where they have since resided. For the past four years Mr. Ormond has been in charge of the Masonic temple and grounds. On March 5 of this years he entered the Methodist hospital in Madison for medical treatment, but he gradually grew weaker and feeling that the end was near he requested to be brought home, living only two days after arriving home.

Mr. Ormond was a man of good education, well informed on general topics and much interested in world events. While living on his farm in Weston he served as school clerk, town clerk and justice of the peace.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge and was greatly interested in its work, taking particular pride in caring for the temple and it surroundings.

Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his death, six son and four daughters: Jessie, Mrs. M. H. Zilisch, Neillsville; George of Kansas City; Esther, Mrs. Robert Welch of Waunakee, Wis.; Douglas at Globe; Oliver at home; Charles at Randolph, N. Y.; Jack on the home farm; Mary, Mrs. George Elmer, Neillsville; Miss Eva, employed at the state hospital; William at home. Two children Florence and Rose are deceased. He leaves also 17 grandchildren. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at the Masonic Temple.
