Mais, Eve (25 MAY 1849 - 13 JUN 1928)

Mrs. Stephen Mais died at the Krakenberger home Tuesday night at 12:30 after an illness of two weeks and funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home, Rev. P. F. Walter officiating and Friday morning the remains were taken to Plymouth for burial, Raymond and Hilda Krakenberger accompanying it.

Eve Krakenberger was born May 25, 1849, in the town of Franklin, Sheboygan Co., and was 79 years and 19 days old at time of death. May 16, 1869 she was married to Stephen Mais and for 7 years the young couple lived on a farm in Sheboygan County. They came to Dorchester and lived a short time, then to Wausau where they resided 16 years, going back to Sheboygan Co. where Mr. Mais died in the little country village of Johnsonville 12 years ago.

Mrs. Mais lived alone until her health began to fail when she came to Abbotsford to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Leiders. A little over a year ago she came to stay with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Krakenberger, where she took ill May 29th and June 13th passed on to the Lord beyond the River.

No children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mais but their hearts were too big to live content alone and four children were raised and loved by them, Mrs. Andrew Leiders of Abbotsford, Mrs. Robert Deibolt, nee Lizzie Cassel, of Wausau, Mrs. Ralph Bailey, nee Clara Cassel, of Ewan, Washington, and Charles Cassel of British Colombia. We are sure these 4 children taken into her loving arms are tribute enough to her memory, words would fail to tell her splendid qualities and those who knew and loved her are the better for having lived.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were her adopted daughters, Mrs. Andrew Leiders of Abbotsford, Mrs. Robert Deibolt of Wausau and their husbands, other relatives and friends were Mrs. Hy. Leiders of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Goesslman of Wausau, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mais and daughters, Norma and Dorothy, Rib Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Mais and son, Paul of Colby, Mrs. Ed Scheibe and daughter Wanda, and Mr. and Mrs. Dell Winchel and family from the country.

Besides these the relatives in Dorchester are Mrs. Anna Krakenberger, Miss Hilda Krakenberger, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Krakenberger and daughters Echo and Elaine, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Herman and family. May the lord comfort and sustain those who mourn.
