Owen Manufacturing plant purchased

By Matt Ollwerther -- Marshfield News-Herald

OWEN - The Owen Manufacturing building, which has sat unused since last June, was purchased Tuesday by a Florida-based finance company in a Clark County Sheriff's Department sale.

Owen Manufacturing owned the mortgage on the building, which was built in 1960, but defaulted. Bayview Loan Servicing purchased the building for $375,000.

The price is $20,000 below the asking price noted on the Clark County Economic Development Corp. Web site.

The old furniture plant closed its doors June and sold most of the equipment inside.

The building's manufacturing area is 56,000 square feet. It has an additional 2,000 square feet for office space and features a loading dock and nearby rail access, according to the CCEDC. The price also includes 48 acres surrounding the plant.

The Clark County Economic Development Corp. was incorporated in 1990 as a nonprofit agency to serve as a countywide focal point and resource center for all municipalities, businesses, organizations and residents.

The sale of the building is the first of three that will be held in the next month.

Two other sales by the Clark County Sheriff's Department will be brought to the courthouse next month, a house in the 700 block of East Fourth Street in Owen and another in the 500 block of East Sixth Street in Neillsville. Those sales will take place at 10 a.m. on May 12 and May 24 at the third floor entrance of the Clark County Courthouse.

Bayview Financial is a privately held, Miami-based finance company dedicated to real estate lending and investment. The company did not return messages left Wednesday.
