Lindquist, Lorraine Marie (23 July 1916 - 3 March 2005)

Lorraine Marie Lindquist, age 88, of Menasha, died in her Menasha home on March 3, 2005, of natural causes. Born in Thorp, Wisconsin, on July 23, 1916, Miss Lindquist was the twelfth and last child of the late Ephraim and Lisa Katrina Kronberg Lindquist, both immigrants from Sweden. After attending public schools and graduating from Thorp High School, Miss Lindquist studied in Minnesota and earned certification as a laboratory and X-ray technician. She worked as a laboratory technician in California and New Hampshire until World War II, when she returned to Wisconsin to contribute to the war effort by X-raying welds on bombs at a military munitions factory in Kenosha. After the war, she began a long career as laboratory technician for the medical practice of Dr. Clifford Barborka in Chicago, Illinois, until 1968, when she moved to Menasha and worked at the Jensen Clinic until her retirement. For many years after her retirement, Miss Lindquist served as a volunteer at Theda Clark Memorial Hospital.

Miss Lindquist was a strong proponent of the value and enjoyment of family, maintaining personal relationships with an extensive and far-flung clan. For sixteen years, in her Menasha home, she cared for her sister, Minnie, until Minnie’s death. She remembered birthdays, celebrated weddings, births and christenings, and was the central switchboard for addresses and phone numbers. Family celebrations were her primary entertainment, although as a younger woman, she also loved travel. One summer she spent traveling Europe with her niece, Gretchen Holstein Schoff, taking the opportunity to visit relatives in Sweden. She also traveled to Alaska and the Grand Canyon with Elizabeth Holstein Delgass, another niece. For the last ten years Miss Lindquist enjoyed a summer trip to Door County, Wisconsin, with the Delgasses, where she especially enjoyed attending performances by the Peninsula Players and musical performances at the Birch Creek venue. After an evening performance by jazz pianist, Marian McPartland, in 2002, Miss Lindquist said "that was the best evening of my life." She was also an enthusiastic and knowledgeable sports fan, able to discuss statistics and strategies at the highest level. As her energies declined, she was supported by the attentions of nieces and nephews: Lizbeth Lindquist Keefe, Judy Lindquist Durant, Ingrid Lindquist Hallanger, Nancy Lindquist Teclaw, Shirley Schoen, Elizabeth Holstein Delgass, Marilyn Lindquist Rasmussen, John, Donald, Lawrence and Alan Lindquist.

Miss Lindquist was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers (Lawrence, Charles, Kenneth, Russell, Donald and Durward), five sisters (Jennie, Ella, Minnie, Esther and Ruth), and two nieces (Gretchen Schoff and Kathryn Anfang). She is survived by four nephews, seven nieces, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be sorely missed by all.

A memorial service and burial will be held in Thorp, Wisconsin, during the Memorial Day weekend. Memorial contributions in Miss Lindquist’s memory May be made to the charity of one’s choice.
