Luther, Frederick C. (3 Mar 1858 - 7 Jan 1931)

Frederick Carl Luther was born at Ascherbude, Posen, Germany, on the 3rd day of March, 1858. In early infancy he was baptized in the name of the Triune God and then later instructed and confirmed in the Ev. Luth. Church to which Church he remained a life long member. On the 23rd day of March, 1882 he entered the Holy Estate of Wedlock with Miss Wilhelminnie Schultz, which union was blessed with 10 children. That same year he emigrated to the U. S. A. His journey to America was in reality his wedding trip. He settled in Jefferson County, where he worked at the mason trade. Two years later, in 1884 he left that part of the state and came to Clark county, where he bought 40 acres in the Town of Loyal. Here he was confronted with real pioneer work, his land being covered with pine trees. His trading place was Spencer, there being no roads, he had to carry his produce there on his back and return with flour and other provisions in the same manner. The deceased was also one of the charter members of the local Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, having served the Congregation as its secretary for a period of 31 years. The deceased enjoyed good health until a few weeks before his death. On second Christmas Day he went out in the morning to do his chores as usual, in seemingly good health and came in for breakfast when suddenly he was taken with a stroke of Paralyses, however leaving him conscious but which caused his death. On Wednesday morning at 1:10 A. M. he was quietly called from this vale of tears to a better world as we have all reason to hope, making his age 72 years, 10 months and 4 days. The deceased now leaves to mourn his sorrowing wife, who stood at his side for almost a half century, as also 6 sons and 4 daughters, namely: Mrs., Martha Schwan of Beaver township; Mrs. Alvina Gretzner of Beaver township; Adolph Luther of Sherman township; Otto Luther of MacMillan township; Emil Luther of Beaver township; Frank Luther of Zurich, Montana; Mrs. Lena Foelske of Beaver township; Martin Luther of Aberdeen, Washington; John Luther of Beaver township, and Mrs. Alma Duermeyer of Loyal township. Also 29 grand children and two brothers Julius and Paul Luther of Germany and two sisters, Minnie and Gusta of Germany; besides numerous relatives and a host of friends who have our heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement.
