Pitcher, Allie (1845 - 4 Aug. 1934)

A life whose years were filled with tragic griefs came to a close at the County hospital at Owen when Mrs. Allie Pitcher long a patient there passed away August 4, at the age of 88 years.

Mrs. Pitcher was born at Rome, New York, her family later moving to Fond du Lac where she was married to Dr. H. C. Pitcher. They moved to Neillsville about the year 1882, Dr. Pitcher practicing dentistry here until his death in January 1900. One son Leslie was born to them. He grew to manhood here, took up the study of dentistry and after his graduation at dental college practiced here for a few years. Abandoning his practice he went to Niles, Michigan and became manager of a large poultry yard, later going to South Bend, Indiana where he worked for a short time at carpentry. Soon after he ceased to write to his mother and have never been heard from since. Many letters of inquiry were written by Mrs. Pitcher and her friends, but no tidings of the lost son were ever received. The grief and anxiety of this unsettled her mind. She had been a woman of culture, had read widely and intelligently and although unsettled in mind continued to read books and papers. She taught school before her marriage.

The funeral was held at Schiller’s Funeral home, Monday, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.

A nephew, Herbert Pitcher of Sheboygan came to attend the funeral. A sister 99 years old lives in Tacoma.
