Wojner, Valentine (14 Feb. 1915 - 6 June 2005)

ABBOTSFORD -Valentine Wojner, 90, died Monday, June 6, 2005, at Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. The Rev. Jerome Freimuth will officiate. Burial will be in Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Valentine's grandsons serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford, and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Valentine was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Lublin to Joseph and Anna (Kuzunik) Wojner. Valentine and Alice Witt were married Nov. 18, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran parsonage, Greenwood. She died in May 25, 1980. Valentine and May Mrotek were married Oct. 24, 1981, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. She died in 1997.

As a young man, Valentine worked as a lumberjack in Phillips. He later returned to the Greenwood/Loyal area, where he was employed as a milk hauler and farm hand. Valentine drove trucks for Plautz Brothers of Willard hauling gravel. He worked as a mechanic at Cory Chevrolet in Greenwood, then Alice and Valentine moved to Chicago, where he worked as a machinist for Mealy Printing Press Company, in a defense plant manufacturing cannon barrels, during World War II. He then became a co-owner in the former Abbotsford Wrecking Company and later owner and operator of Abbotsford Auto, retiring in December 1991.

Valentine was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He served as mayor of Abbotsford from 1981 to 1985, and was president and founding member of Wisconsin Auto and Truck Parts Recycling Association. He was a dedicated contributor to his community and medical interests. He was an avid league bowler and enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada and his cabin in Tripoli, where he spent time with his family.

Valentine is survived by his children, Wendy (Dave Watson) Wojner of Abbotsford, Jerald (M. Lynne) Wojner of Abbotsford, Valentine Roger (Donna) Wojner of Colby and Mark (Julia) Wojner of Abbotsford; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Bertha) Wojner of Thorp; and one sister, Sophie Pecora of Pekin, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives; and a grandson, Ronald Kramas.

He was co-owner of the former Abbotsford Wrecking Co. He later owner and operated Abbotsford Auto, retiring in December 1991.

Survivors include his children, Wendy (Dave Watson) Wojner, Jerald (M. Lynne) Wojner and Mark (Julia) Wojner, all of Abbotsford, and Valentine Roger (Donna) Wojner of Colby; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Bertha) Wojner, Thorp; and one sister, Sophie Pecora, Pekin, Ill.
