Mrs. Lon Stevens, 76, one of the early residents of this county, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Knickle in New Richmond, where she had been visiting the past several weeks. Pneumonia was given as the immediate cause of her death, but she had been in poor health for a number of months.

The body was brought to the home of another daughter, Mrs. W. J. Gourlie, where a brief service was held Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 12:30 o’clock, after which it was taken to the Methodist Episcopal Church here for the funeral rites, held at 2 p.m. The Rev. Charles Brown of August, former Spencer pastor, officiated. Interment took place in the Loyal cemetery.

Mrs. Stevens, whose maiden name was Electra M. Chandler, lived for many years on a farm in this community with her husband, who retired from active farming about 15 years ago and moved to Granton, where he died in 1926. Two of their seven children also preceded her in death, one in infancy and the other, Mrs. Curtiss Renne (Lizzie), several years ago.

Surviving besides Mrs. Knickle (Olive) and Mrs. Gourlie (Verna) are Mrs. Ray Austin (Mabel) of Rockford, Ill., and Chauncey, Ed. and Ruel, all of this vicinity. She leaves 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Electra M. Chandler was born May 16th, 1855 on a farm near Plymouth Wisconsin where she lived with her parents up to the time of her marriage.

On September 8, 1872 she was united in marriage to Palander Stevens, the Rev. A. J. Brill performing the marriage ceremony.

Shortly after their marriage they came to Clark County and settled on a farm in the town of Sherman, where they lived until the fall of 1915 when they moved to Granton, Wisconsin where she lived up to the time of the death of her husband on May 4, 1926.

After the death of her husband she made her home with her daughter in the winter and in the summer she spent most of her time with her sons and other relatives.

She was very active and seemed to be enjoying good health most of the time, up to the time she was taken sick. In August she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ollie Knickle in New Richmond, Wis., where she planned on spending the winter.

She was taken sick on Sept. 14th and gradually grew worse. She died on Sept. 27th after a brief illness of two weeks, pneumonia being the cause of her death.

The body was brought to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Verna Gourlie where a brief service was held on Wednesday Sept. 30th, at 1 o’clock after which it was taken to the Methodist Episcopal Church here for the funeral rites at 2:00 P. M.

The Rev. Charles Brown of August and Rev. Norman Grandy of Loyal officiated. Interment took place in the Loyal cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Chauncey, Ed. and Ruel, all of this vicinity, and three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Austin, Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Ollie Knickle, New Richmond, Wis., and Mrs. Verna Gourlie of this place. Two children preceded her in death, one son dying in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Renne died on July 14, 1925. She also leaves 14 grand children and 13 great grand children, one brother Willis Chandler of Plymouth, Wis., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Six grandsons acted as pall bearers namely Stanley and Ross Stevens, Harley and Warren Renne, Rollo and Price Welch. The following six grand daughters had charge of the floral tributes: Winnifred Knickle, Fern Jensen, Esther Schmidtke, Iva Stevens, Ines Stevens and Hope Renne.

Those attending the funeral from away were Mr. and Mrs. Willis Chandler and daughter Evelyn, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Chandler all of Plymouth, Mr. Emmett Eldridge and daughter Mrs. Leslie O’Dell, Sauk City, Iowa; Mrs. Emily Stevens, Oconomowoc, Wis.
