Gene Kotas, 74, Spencer, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at North Central Health Care facility, Wausau. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 7, at Community Funeral Home, Spencer. The Rev. Mary Pol officiated. Burial was in West Spencer Cemetery.

Gene Kotas was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Oshkosh. He was raised by Clarence and Ethelyn Kotas. He received his education in Marshfield. He moved to Milwaukee in 1951, and was an electronics salesman. He loved music and played trombone in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He moved back to the Spencer area in the early 1970s. He continued his love of music and played in a band in Marshfield. Besides music, he loved nature, shooting, hunting and fishing. He married his second wife, Melissa Crawford, on Dec. 10, 1988, and was a loving, devoted husband.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa, Spencer; a daughter, Karen (Thomas) Kloss, Appleton; a son, Kevin (Sue) Kotas, Milwaukee; a grandson, Matthew Kloss; and his wife’s family.

Preceding him in death were his mother, in childbirth; Clarence and Ethelyn Kotas; and a grandson, Danny Kotas.

Maurina/Community Funeral Home, Spencer, assisted the family with arrangements.
