Devlin, Ellen (1 APR 1853 - 13 DEC 1931)

As characteristically as she had met the many vicissitudes of a long and exacting life of the wife of a pioneer Wisconsin farmer and the mother of a large family, Mrs. Ellen Devlin faced the long days of her final suffering and death with Christian fortitude. The end came December 13, 1931.

Mrs. Devlin was born at Chester, Wisconsin, April 1, 1853. As Ellen Farley, at the age of twenty-three, she married James Devlin in 1878, being the latter’s second wife. They lived for a number of years on a farm near Lowell, Wis., moving to Loyal in 1902. Her husband died here in 1914. Two sisters, Mrs. Rodgers of Loyal, and Mrs. Eliza Young of Luce, Minn., survive.

Of Mr. Devlin’s first family there were Mrs. Rose Imlay of Denver, Col. John of Lowell, James of Marinette, Wis., and Anna deceased (1904). Of the second marriage there were Dora of Loyal, Mrs. Geo. Jarvis, Wausau, Wis., Mrs. Marvel Couture, deceased (1925) Madeline of Cleveland, Ohio, and Colie deceased (1903).

Funeral services were conducted at St. Balthasar’s Catholic Church, Loyal, Rev. Father Aurit being the celebrant of the Requiem High Mass. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery here.

Among the many who attended the funeral were Mr. Wm. Hickey of Lowell, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Ray Anderson and Mrs. Geo. J. Smith of Wausau, Wis.
