Volovsek, David A. (6 NOV 1947 - 19 JUL 2005)

David Allen "Dave" Volovsek 57, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Luther Midelfort Hospital, Eau Claire. According to his wishes, a formal funeral service was not held. Family and friends were invited to the Volovsek home for a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 23.

David Allen Volovsek was born Nov. 6, 1947, in Greenwood, at the family homestead, to Joseph and Ida (nee Ockerl) Volovsek. After high school graduation, he worked in Milwaukee for one year as a roofer before returning to work with his father in the family’s pulping business. He married Mary Ellen Weyer on June 28, 1969. In 1975, he bought the homestead from his parents and set up a successful sawmill business. In the last three years, he had expanded the business to include tree-trimming services. A jack of all trades, he was proud to have built his home and the majority of Buildings on his property. He also fixed much of the equipment needed to run the sawmill and often helped neighbors and friends with equipment repairs. He enjoyed hosting parties for family and friends, especially for the annual deer hunt and sleigh rides. He loved spending time with Mary Ellen polka dancing, traveling and treasure hunting at auctions and garage sales. He was looking forward to riding his horse, Duke, on his woods trails this fall, as well as the birth of his first grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen; his sons, Jeff (Becky) Volovsek, Hudson, and Greg (Carolyn) Volovsek, Milwaukee; his sisters, Judy (Russ Sokolowicz) Volovsek, Milwaukee, Kathy (Tom) Gall, Waukesha, and Susan (Phil) Thierman, Fairbanks, Alaska; his brother, Ken (Shari) Volovsek, Challis, Idaho; his niece, Gina (Tim) Rarick, Paris, France; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Ida Volovsek.

Stokes and Mundt Funeral Home, Eau Claire, assisted the family with arrangements.
