Austin, Volney (4 FEB 1833 - 17 NOV 1914)

Died at his home in Gemmell, Minn. Nov. 17, 1914, Volney Austin, aged eighty-one years, nine months and thirteen days.

Deceased was a Civil War veteran and served from 1861 to 1865. He received two honorable discharges. He was born in Genoa, N.Y. in 1833. In 1861 he enlisted in the service of the U.S. Army and served until June 2, 1863, when he was honorably discharged. He re-enlisted and served until the end of the war, when he was again honorably discharged. In 1866 he was married to Miss Mary Pratt of Genoa. After living here three years, they moved to Pine Valley, Clark County, Wis., where he is a well known resident, living there 41 years. In 1900 they sold out and moved to Gemmel, Minn., where he spent the remainder of his days.

He had been in poor health for some time, and suffered much the last three weeks. On Nov. 17 he closed his eyes in peaceful sleep where suffering is unknown.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife and seven children: Mrs. Hubert Reinarz of Gemmel, Minn.; Mrs. Elsie McKimm, Oregon City, Ore.; Mrs. Martha Christianson, Neillsville, Wis. and Mrs. Tillie Freune; Charlie of Oshkosh; Elmer of S.D. and Frank of Neillsville, Wis. He also leaves a host of friends both in Minnesota and in Wisconsin who will really miss him.
