Bostwick, Henry A. (15 Jan 1857 - 10 JUN 1923)

Henry Arthur Bostwick was born at Bostwick Valley, La Crosse, Co., Wis., Jan. 15, 1857, and departed this life Jun 10, 1923, aged 69 years, 4 months and 26 days.

The deceased was united in holy matrimony with Miss Mary Frances Stanley in Grant Co., S.D., Sept. 9, 1877?. To this union were born nine children, four of who died in infancy. Those living are the following: two daughters and three sons, Mrs. C.H. Stebbens of Oregon, who could not attend the funeral of her father owing to an auto accident which made it impossible for her to do so; Chas. H. Bostwick, Mrs. Geo. Gemmeke, Jason D. Bostwick and Lyle J. Bostwick, all of who reside within a few miles of Greenwood, Clark County, Wis. There are living, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His faithful wife also is living.

The deceased was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, and was for more than twenty-five years a member of the Greenwood Camp, M.W.A. No. 1450.

Mr. Bostwick was in ill health for several years, and a short while since her became so much worse that he was taken to a hospital, where he remained for a few weeks. On the day he died he requested to be taken to his home six miles southwest of Greenwood. His son brought him home the same day, and he lived only an hour or so after he arrived at his home, having been taken suddenly worse while sitting iin a chair on the portico.

A number of years ago, in his early manhood, Mr. Bostwick made a profession of faith in Christ and became a member of the Methodist Church, and afterward united with the Rutgers Chapel Presbyterian Church, where he held his membership at the time of his death. Of late years he was not able to attend the public services of the church, largely on account of bodily infirmity, but he held to his faith in his Savior and lived in hope of eternal life through Him. Mr. Bostwick was well and favorably known to a large concourse of friends thought the country in which he lived, and was highly respected by his neighbors. It was said that the last rites in connection with his funeral were one of the largest in attendance ever held in his vicinity.

The funeral services were held after a short service at the late residence, from the Methodist Church at Greenwood, and conducted by Rev. G.J. Donnell, pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Neillsville, and E.M. Bickell, pastor of the Greenwood Methodist Church. The local chapter of the Modern Woodmen Lodge, paid appropriate and fraternal tribute to the memory of their dead comrade, who had for so many years been a member of the local chapter. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
