Kapfer, Elsie E. (3 JUN 1914 - 17 Jan 2003)

Elsie Kapfer, 88, Neillsville, died on Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at the Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Music was provided by Eileen Zank, organist, and Jodi Rueth, soloist. The Rev. Craig Conklin officiated. Burial was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jim Baxter, Terry L. Kapfer, Kenneth R. Kapfer, Kip L. Kapfer, Christian W. Kapfer and Joshua M. Kapfer.

Elsie Emiline Schultz was born on June 3, 1914, in Clemons, Iowa, to Roy J. and Maggie L. (nee Boofer) Schultz. She attended school in Iowa and Wisconsin. She married Lee "Happy" W. Kapfer on Nov. 23, 1929, in Neillsville. After their marriage they moved to West Bend and both worked at the Amity Company making leather goods. They worked there for a year and then moved back to Neillsville. They later moved back to West Bend and after a short time moved back to Neillsville. They farmed near Neillsville until 1943. They then moved into Neillsville and lived there until 1948, when they moved to their cabin in the town of Hewitt. They moved to Iowa in 1951 and when they returned to Neillsville in 1952 they purchased their son’s taxi service, the 400 Cab Company, which they operated for three years. Eventually, they moved back to their town of Hewitt cabin. Her husband died in 1982. In 1990, she sold the cabin and moved into town. In 1991, she moved to Black River Falls. She moved into the Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville, in 1997. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Neillsville. Her interests included bowling.

Survivors include four sons, Wilbert L. "Bill" (Josephine) Kapfer, South Beloit, Ill., Bobby L. "Bob" (Mary Ellen) Kapfer, Black River Falls, Richard L."Dick" (Anita) Kapfer, Roscoe, Ill., and Michael T. "Max" (Judy) Kapfer, Stoughton; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Lee; one son, Lloyd F. Kapfer; one brother and four sisters.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
