Neverman, William (14 Jun 1834 - 20 May 1917)

William Neverman, for many years a resident of this vicinity, died at the Veterans Home, Waupaca, May 20, 1917.

Deceased was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, Jun 14, 1834, and came to America in 1852, coming to Milwaukee, where he worked at ship building. He came to Clark County, Wis. in 1857, settling in Neillsville and worked at the carpenter trade. He enlisted at Black River Falls in Co. I. 14th Wis. Volunteers as a private and was mustered out as 2nd Lieut., after a service of four years, lacking 10 days.

On Nov. 24, 1865 he was married to Miss Sophia Sontag of Neillsville. To them were born seven children, all of who are living: Mrs. Geo. Hartison, Bellingham, Wash., Carl Neverman, Portland, Ore., Otto Neverman, Neillsville, Mrs. H. Gustavson, Blanchard, Idaho, Rudolph Neverman, fresno, Cal., Mrs. Wm. Hanna, Neillsville, Mrs. C. Hunt, Greenwood. He leaves also 13 grandchildren. Mrs. Neverman died Jun 17, 1889. Mr. Neverman took a homestead near Columbia, which he developed and later sold. In 1903 he moved to the state of Washington, where he lived until 1915, returning to end his days in quet at the Veterans Home. He was always intensely patriotic. He was wounded at the battle of Shiloh, but returned to service. He was a good citizen and lived an honorable life. The funeral was held at the Otto Neverman home Friday, rev. G.W. Longenecker officiating, the G.A.R. attending in a body. The children from away present, were Mrs. H. Gustavson and Mrs. Hunt; others from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Sontag of St. Paul, Wm. Sontag of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Burns of Greenwood.

The family wishes to thank all who gave them help and sympathy, and especially express their thanks to the G.A.R., those who furnished autos, the singers and those who sent floral offerings.
