Lanphear, Catherine (1823 - 25 Jun 1889)

Died at Thorp, Clark County, Wis., on Jun 25, 1889, Catherine, wife of Elisha Lanphear, aged 65 years, 10 months and 1 day.

Catherine Dobbins was born at Morristown, N.J. in 1823 and removed with her parents to Sheboygan, Co., Wis. in October where she continued to resided until four years ago, when she removed with her husband to this place. In 1842 she was married to James Crane, who died Sept. 14, 1864. On Sept. 28, 1865 she was married to her surviving husband, Elisha Lanphear. Mrs. Lanphear was the mother of eight children by her first marriage, only one of which, her youngest daughter, Mrs. W. Mansfield of Sheboygan Co., is now living, and was present at her death bed. Hugh Dobbins of Chilton, Jefferson Co., Wis. and Mrs. Thos. Steele, Sr. of Hemlock, her surviving brother and sister, were also present at the interment. Mrs. Lanphear experience religion at the tender age of 15 years and for over half a century has been a faithful member and constant attendant of the Methodist Episcopal Church, until quite recently when her increasing years and distance from the village prevented her attendance. Stricken down on Thursday, she expired on the following Tuesday, the cause of death being Bright's disease. Funeral services were held on Wednesday Jun 26, Rev. J. E. Webster of the M. E. Church, officiating. Universally beloved by all, her greatest aim in life seemed to be to make life pleasant and happy, for all about her and her sudden death calls forth expressions of sympathy on every hand for her surviving consort. The large attendance at her funeral all showed the hold she had upon the hearts of all her many friends and neighbors. Patient in her brief illness, her faith in "Jesus made her dying bed as soft as downy pillows are."

Richly matured as the grain for the harvest, having fought the good fight of faith, her earthly course was finished by the new birth into the life eternal, where death shall never, never come. May others seek to emulate her life of Christian faith and righteousness, that like her angels May waft our souls to the Throne of Him who saith, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into everlasting joy and peace and happiness."
