Died, at her home in St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 28, 1901, Mrs. J. B. Swift, aged 45 years, 5 months and 15 days.

She was born at Carthage, Ill., Aug. 15, 1855, her maiden name being Eva Gertrude Fessenden. She was united in marriage to Joseph B. Swift in the year 1878 at Caledonia, Minn., removing to Chicago soon after. She has made frequent visits to Thorp in years gone by, the last being to attend the funeral of her mother seven years ago. She had many friends here, all of who attended her funeral on Friday last. Her whole life was an object lesson of patience and fortitude. Her home was the home of a devoted wife. In it never was heard the ripple of discontent, peace, joy and loved alone prevailed. Having no children her whole life was devoted for the comforts of the now bereaved husband, and his wail of sorrow, as he knew that she, who for 22 years had been his sunshine, had left him to tread life's weary way alone, could only be understood by those nar and dear to him. Together they were preparing fro the life which is beyond, both being members of the Old Centenary M. E. Church in St. Louis. Mrs. Swift was an invalid for a number of years, but the end came after only ten days of serious illness.
