Colby, Clarissa E. (20 Augl 1847 - 10 Apr 1910)

Clarissa Eliza Colby was born in fort Ann, Washington Co., N.Y., Aug. 20, 1847, and died Sunday April 10, 1910, at the family homestead in Reseburg township, Clark County, Wis.

She was united in marriage to Wm. Colby Oct. 22, 1865 in Easton, Adams Co., Wis. She came to Clark County with her husband Jan. 6, 1880, where she has lived ever since.

Six children were born to them: Hattie Z. Einfeldt of Greenwood, Wis., Zadie C. Lemley of Chicago, Ill., Corlis T., Claude C. and Guy of the town of Reseburg, Clark County. The oldest, Jesse Ellery, departed from this world in 1903 at the age of 32.

Besides her children she leaves two brothers and three sisters to mourn her death.

She was converted to the Christian faith and joined the United Brethren in her youth. She joined the Congregational Church in Reseburg at the time of its organization in Aug. 1898 and has ever since remained a faithful and conscientious member of the same.

Her life was an exposition of loving devotion to her home and family, especially to her youngest son who is now in his eighteenth year, and who has been a helpless invalid since birth. It can be said of her that her life went out in service to all who needed help, like her Savior, she saved not herself even unto death.

After brief services at the house the remains were conveyed to the Reseburg Congregational Church, where a large concourse of friends and neighbors had assembled and from there to the cemetery. Her former pastor, Rev. Abraham Bell of Bloomer, Wis., officiated, the text being taken from James 2:18.
