Tiedemann, Christian (26 Sep 1830 - 20 Feb 1911)

Christian Tiedemann died at his home in this village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) on Monday, Feb. 20, 1911, of heart trouble, aged 80 years, 4 months and 24 days. He was born near Bergelheuse, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on Sept. 26, 1830, where he grew to manhood. Previous to coming to America in 1852 he served three years as a soldier in the German-Danish War. Upon arriving in America he settled at New Holstein, Calumet Co., Wis., where on Jan. 3, 1857, he was united in marriage with Magdalena Langemak, shortly afterward moving to Kiel, where he followed his profession as civil engineer and held the office of town clerk of the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc Co., for sixteen consecutive years. In 1864 he enlisted in the 9th Wis. Regiment as a member of Co. D. Infantry, and served until discharged at the close of the war in 1865. In 1881 he came to Thorp, where he was actively engaged in civil engineer work for many years. In 1883 his family came here to reside. His wife died on Nov. 29, 1896. For twenty-four consecutive years he has served the town, and immediately following, the village of Thorp, as treasurer. After a long and busy and useful life he died as he had lived, honored, trusted and loved. He leaves to mourn, seven daughters, Mrs. Jno. Ibeling of Kiel, Mrs. Helen Greves of Abbotsford, Mrs. Bertha LaBerge, Mrs. Johanna Krupp and Mrs. Minnie Brintnall of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Elsie Krupp of Vulcan, Mich., Mrs. Christina Steele, and one son, Herman C. Tiedemann of Thorp.

The funeral will be held from the M. E. Church on Sunday, Rev. J. B. Bachman officiating, interment taking place in the Thorp Village Cemetery.
