Heagle, Elizabeth A. (25 May 1848 - 10 Augl 1918)

Mr. and Mrs. James Heagle of Gilman died at the hospital at Chippewa Falls the latter part of last week. Mr. Heagle died on Friday morning and Mrs. Heagle on Saturday evening. Old age, heart trouble and general debility were the cause of both instances.

Mr. Heagle was born at Rawdan, Ontario, June 24, 1841, and had reached the age of 77 years, 1 month and 15 days.

Mrs. Heagle (nee Elizabeth Ann Eaton), was born at Kingston, Ontario, May 25, 1848, and had reached the age of 75 years, 2 months and 15 days.

They were united in marriage at Madoc, Ontario, Nov. 19, 1863 and in 1865 came to this country, locating in the town of Osborne, Outagamie Co., Wis., where they resided until 1887 when they moved to Cadott and in 1891 to Thorp, Clark County, Wis. Here they remained until1909, when they moved to Gilman.

They have been in failing health. Last winter they resided here with their daughter, Mrs. Walter Fults, in hopes of gaining health, but returned to Gilman in March without noticeable improvement.

Three weeks ago they went to the hospital in Chippewa Falls to secure relief if possible, but of no avail.

To them thirteen children were born, six of who are still living: Edward of Cadott, Anson, William and Roy of Gilman, Mrs. George Campbell of Park Falls, and Mrs. Walter Fults of this place. Mr. Heagle also leaves two brothers and four sisters who reside at Seymour, Wis., and a brother, John Heagle, who resides here. Mrs. Heagle leaves one sister at Madoc, Ontario, and one sister at Utica, N.Y. Together they leave numerous grandchildren.

After a long, busy and useful life, they died as they had lived, honored, trusted and respected. They reared their own monument while they lived in the hearts of all who knew them. Their life was beautiful from beginning to close, and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows they met in the way, they never wavered.

Mr. Heagle was an honored member of the local Odd Fellows Lodge and Mrs. Heagle of the Rebekah Lodge, these orders having charge of the funerals, which took place on Monday afternoon from the Fults residence, Rev. Crow assisting in the services, interment following in the Thorp Village Cemetery.
