Jane Szymanski

Jane H. Szymanski, age 82, of Thorp, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls, on Monday, September 17, 2001.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2001 at St. Bernards-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp, with Father John Puerner officiating. Burial will follow in old St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sam Slota, Kevin Alger, Peter Bogumill, Jeffrey Juzwiak, Joe Szymanski and Jason Szymanski. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 for 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service.

Jane Helen Selby was born on April 21, 1919, in Chippewa Falls, the daughter of John and Helen (Seufzer) Selby. She was raised and received her schooling in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1936. After completing her education, Jane moved to Chicago where she worked at a Jewish bakery. On August 27, 1938, she was united in marriage to Arthur D. Szymanski at st. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. They moved to a farm east of Thorp and farmed until 1956. They then moved to Highland, IN, where her husband worked as a carpenter for one year. In 1957, they moved back to Thorp and Jane worked for Anderson-Skogmo’s Clothing store until it closed in 1971. Her husband died on February 20, 1993. Jane continued to reside in Thorp until entering the Clark County Health Care Center in August of 1997. She was a member of St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church and was very active in Altar Society. Jane enjoyed cooking, baking, bingo and dancing.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter: Marline (Walter) Juzwiak of Thorp; her son: Ronald (Linda) Szymanski of Thorp; her beloved grandchildren: Joseph Patrick (Tina) Szymanski, Hope Ann (Kevin) Alger, Jason Arthur (Kim) Szymanski; Jeffrey Juzwiak and Kathleen (Aaron) Lewan; her very special great-granddaughter Haley Ann Alger; and two brothers: John Selby of Milwaukee and Tony Selby of Gary, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, her brothers: William and Myron and her sisters: Genevieve Oberle and Leona Kundo.
