The Races Last Saturday afternoon the Clark County Driving Association gave their first or opening races at the Fair Grounds near this village. The attendance was very large, and everything passed off pleasantly and to the entire satisfaction of all. There were three races in all two trotting races and one running race. There were three horses entered for the running race; one owned by Dr. French, of this place, and two by Mr. John Dwyre. French’s horse won the race - best two in three - in two straight heats. Mr. Dwyre’s horses had not received sufficient training, and never were on a circular tract until that day. Aside from this they were badly handled, and it is only surprising, everything being considered, that they could do as well as they did. Uncle John has not lost faith in his horses and will be on hand again at the next exhibition. In the trotting races Joe Gibson’s "gray" took the first money in the "green" race and the second money in the other. Capt. Tolford’s pet, "Jerry," was the winning horse, taking the first money in the race for trained horses. There were several other horses on the ground, but we have not the space to give each the notice they deserve. The receipts of the day were quite satisfactory to the Association, and the success of their first exhibition makes it not at all improbable that they will give another soon.
