Helen Szatalowicz

Helen M. Szatalowicz passed away peacefully in the arms of her husband and in the presence of two of her five children at her home south of Stanley, WI on Saturday, 15th December, 2001, after a 15 year long siege with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Helen was born to Ezra Greb and Rachel (Bohl) Greb. She rode horseback to a small country school and graduated from Chattanooga High School. She attended and graduated from two-year Cameron College, Lawton, OK. Helen then taught in the Faxon, OK School system. A number of her students were Native Americans. She then attended the University of Oklahoma at Norman, OK for one year and transferred to Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, OK formerly called OK A&M College.

She graduated from there with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. It was at OK A&M College where she met her future husband who was an Aviation Cadet with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following graduation she taught Home Economics at Sapulpa OK High School. She then accepted a position as Home Demonstration Agent and 4-H Club Coordinator for Cotton Co. Walters OK.

She married Marion Szatalowicz at Seven Dolors church Rectory, Manhattan, KS on 3 May 1946. Helen then accepted a position as Co. Home Demonstration Agent and 4-H Club Coordinator in Wabaunsee Co. at Alma, Ks. She later taught Home Economics at the Alma Kansas High School. After her husband’s graduation from the College of Veterinary Medicine, at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS in June 1951, the couple moved to Stanley, WI where they resided since. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, American Veterinary Medical Auxiliary, WI Vet. Med. Auxiliary and her other professional associations.

Helen was always active in 4-H activities. In 1938 she was found to be the healthiest 4-H Club girl in OK and competed in the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. She judged at numerous county fairs in OK and KS. Helen was an accomplished seamstress and a gourmet cook. Her enjoyable activities were raising her children, playing bridge, bowling, gardening, artistic painting, attending auctions, traveling and working with people.

She was a devoted loving wife and mother. Her priorities in life were her family and her deep unswerving faith in God. He friendly smile, enthusiasm, cheerfulness, and willingness to be of help or assistance will be sadly missed by family and anyone that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ezra and Rachel Greb and her brother Victory A. Greb.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years: Dr. Marion T. Szatalowicz; daughters: Dr. Victoria Szatalowicz Rosenfield MD of Culver City, CA, Sharon Szatalowicz, Realtor, Glendale, WI, Karen Szatalowicz Ramos, Occupational Therapist, (Jesse), Lomabard IL; sons: Dr. Michael Szatalowicz, DC, Brookfield, WI, Philip Szatalowicz, Environmental Compliance Engineer, Minneapolis, MN; Grandchildren: Kate and Greg Ramos, Ariel and Richard Rosenfield; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Memorial donations may be submitted to donor’s choice. Family preferences include St. Joseph Hospice Service of Chippewa Falls, Stanley Lions Scholarship Fund, Am. Vet. Med. Foundations, Alzheimer’s related entities.

Visitation was at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley on Wednesday, December 19, 2001 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service and Mass will be at Holy Family Church on Thursday, 20 December 2001, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Bob Nelson officiating. Plombon Funeral Home is assisting the family.
