Atteln, Albert (16 MAR 1859 - 16 May 1909)

Died, at his home in this village (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.) on Sunday night at eleven o'clock, Albert Atteln at the age of fifty years of cancer of the bowels.

Deceased was born at Eagle, Waukesha Co., Wis., on March 16, 1859, and when five years of age went to Norwalk, Wis. with his parents, where he helped work the farm of his father until April 1, 1900, when he came to this village and started a dray line in which he owned a half interest up to the time of his death.

He was a man of generous impulses, strictly honest in every sense of the word, united sound sense with strong convictions and had the respect and esteem of all. We do not believe that he had an enemy in the entire village. To meet and become acquainted with him always ended in making for himself a steadfast friend. He was a good neighbor and there was no happier family circle in the land than his. His best monument will be the good report he has left behind him in the community in which he has lived for over nine years. He had filled the various relations of life as son, husband, father, brother, friend, and filled them well. Who can do more? How much this community owes him and such as he, it is impossible to estimate, though it would be a grateful task to trace his influence through some of the more direct channels.

He leaves to mourn his loss three daughters, Theresa, Clara and Eleanor, a father, John Atteln of Sparta, three sisters, Misses Francis and Anna Atteln of Sparta and Mrs. John Goethe of this village, and one brother, Joseph Atteln of Norwalk.

His many friends in this village and vicinity were given the opportunity at half past six on Tuesday morning to take a last look at his remains before being taken to Norwalk, on the same morning, where he was laid to rest beside his wife who preceded him fifteen years ago.

The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.

1910 Postcard to Myrtle Sischo of Oak Point, Washington from "Kit" (Catherine Syth), sent in Greenwood, WI at 7 A.M. and mentions the death of Albert Atteln.
