Leatherdale, Maria (9 Feb 1837 - 10 Jan 1915)

Mrs. Luke Leatherdale, an old resident of this village, and a highly respected woman, passed away in death at her home Sunday, Jan. 10, 1915, death being due to cystic Sarcoma of the Abdomen, at the age of seventy-seven years, ten months and twenty-nine days.

Deceased was born in Canada and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Watson. She was a kind and loving mother, a sincere friend and devoted neighbor. Her life was spent honestly and industriously, and her memory will long remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

She leaves to mourn her death, her aged husband, a son, A. Leatherdale of our village (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.) and a daughter in Canada. Amos Leatherdale, another son of the deceased was instantly killed Dec. 13, 1914.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home, with burial in the Loyal Cemetery, Rev. W. P. Powell officiating. The bereaved family has the sympathy of their many friends.

She and her parents moved from Canada to New York Sate, and later to Wisconsin, where she was united in marriage to a Mr. Palmer. Mrs. Palmer, with her daughter Belle, came to Loyal 18 years ago. She was married to Luke Leatherdale March 13, 1900.

She was a kind and loving mother, a sincere friend and a devoted neighbor. Her life was spent honestly and industriously and her memory will long remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves to mourn her death her aged husband, a daughter, Mrs. George Philpott of Charleston, Wash., a brother, Mr. Henry Watson of Hartford, Conn., her stepchildren, Mrs. Clein Miles of Alberta Canada, Mrs. Alice Seivers of Chico, Cal., Mr. Attila Leatherdale of our village, and Amos Leatherdale who was instantly killed Dec. 13, 1914.
