Bachhuber, Franciska (28 NOV 1868 - 22 Dec 1916)

Seldom has it been our duty to record so sudden a death. A gloom was spread over the whole community Saturday morning, when the news came that Mrs. Bachhuber was dead. She had been in usual health up to a short time before her death, being sick in bed but a few days.

Franciska Meyer was born in LeRoy, Dodge Co., Nov. 28, 1868 and died at her home in the town of Sherman, Clark County, Wis. Dec. 22, 1916, aged 48 years.

She grew to womanhood in LeRoy and on May 21, 1888 was united in marriage to Mr. Max Bachhuber at St. Andrews Catholic Church at that place. They lived in LeRoy and near Waupun and seventeen years ago they moved to their farm in the town of Sherman, Clark Co., where they have since resided.

To this union were born nine children, seven of whom are living and who with the husband, two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren, are left to mourn. The children are as follows: Burkardt living at Hartford, Wis., Elnora, Felice, Otto, Lorena, Max and Franciska living at home.

Mrs. Bachhuber was an associate member of the Catholic Knights of Wis. and also a member of the Ladies Altar Society.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother. After a busy and useful life she died as she had lived, honored, trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while she lived, in the hearts of all who knew her. While she has gone from the scenes, the conflicts, the sorrows and the pleasures of life, she will still live in the hearts of those who knew her best.

The funeral was held at St. Balthasar's Catholic Church in this village Dec. 27th at 10 o'clock, the services consisting of Requiem High Mass, Rev. Joseph F. Stenz officiating. The members of the two societies of the Catholic Knights of Wis. attended the funeral in a body, officers of the ladies society acting as honorary pallbearers. She was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Burkhardt Bachhuber, Hartford, Louis Meyer, S. Randolph, Dr. L. M. Bachhuber, Mr. Andrew Bachhuber, Mrs. F. H. Bauer and Mrs. M. Lehner of Mayville, Mr. Albert Bachhuber of Thresa, and Messrs. Mike and Lawrence Weix of Colby.

Can you tell me more about the Bachhuber family ? I am particularly interested in Theresia Dirmeier Bachhuber, and her daughter Barbara Bachhuber Weix. I have a photo of the two, dating from ca. 1860s.

Jonathan Alter asked for more info on Theresia DIERMEIER BACHHUBER and her dtr, Barbara BACHHUBER WEIX. Theresia was my 3rd gr-grandmother, and I have info on her. I am descended from her son Johann BACHHUBER(1834-1864) I am REALLY interested in the picture that Jonathan has. I have never seen what my 3rd gr-grandmother looked like!!

From: Elizabeth Barbara STEINBERG ARNOTT. (That name, Barbara, came down through the ages.) There were several Barbara BACHHUBER's and also several Barbara STEINBERG's. (I go by Beth)
