That the spot on the upper abdomen did exist three or four years before enlistment that it never injured him in his daily vocation as a stout healthy labor. That he would never have known that it was a hernia if he had not been so informed at his examination at Stevens Point. That when informed that it was a hernia he could swear to the existence of a hernia before the enlistment but if asked before he received that information from high medical authority he should and did swear that he was perfectly sound at enlistment although knowing of the existence of the spot on the upper abdoman as that did not interfere with him and he did not know it was a hernia. Before learning it was a hernia he swore he was sound at enlistment. Since learning the spot was a hernia he has sworn truthfully that the abominal hernia did exist before enlistment.

(Affidavidit to apply for Pension)

State of Wisconsin, County of Clark

On this 31 day of December AD 1880, personally appeared before me a Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for the County and State aforesaid Heinrich Decker who being duly sworn deposes and says he is now a resident of Greenwood in the County of Clark and State of Wisconsin and that he has so been since about the month of April 1870. That he is the identical Heinrich Decker who enlisted as a private in Co., "C" 27th Regt Wis. Volunteer Infantry on the 21st day of August A.D. 1862 and whose application for Invalid Pension is numbered 304226. That afficant couldn't furnish medical testimony of his physical condition at and prior to his said enlistment, for the reason that he never had occasion to employ any physician nor ever had any medical involvment prior to his said enlistment, but that he had always been, prior and up to his said enlistment a sound healthy man, and continued to be and remains sound and healthy, with the exception of a slight attack of chronic diarrhaea, until on or about the month of June A.D. 1863 when afficant incurred the disability for which he claims a pension, to wit - a rupture in the right groin, which rupture is the result of a severe fall sustained by afficant while in the line of duty and without any improper conduct on his part - while on the march from Salartia to Haines Bluff in the State of Mississippi, not after the incurrence of said disability affiant was sent to Division Hospital, but that he received no treatment for said disability, except to apply for and receive from the Dispensary a truss, which affiant had adjusted to his disabled parts and continued to wear the same during the time he remained in said Division Hospital which was about one month, at which time affiant received a furlough to return to his home in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin for a period of Ninty Days, but that affiant was obliged on account of said disability and a slight attack of chronic Diarrhea tat the time to have said furlough extended for a period of nearly four months. Now at the time of affiants return to his said Regiment he was unfit for duty and did not therefore during his said length of service perform any but very light duty. Now after his discharge from the service and return home he was invalid for his said hernia from July 1865 to April 1870 by one Dr. Bodustab there a resident of the Town of Herman, Sheboygan Co., Wisconsin at which time affiant removed to Clark County, Wisconsin. Now affiant is informed and beleives that the said Dr. Bodruslob is now dead. Now since affiant has resided in Clark Co. aforesaid, he has had more less treatment for his said disability that during the first three or four years after coming to Clark Co., affiant did not (illegible) the reach of any physician, but that since the year 1874 and up to the present time he has been treated by Dr. H. J. Thomon, a resident of Greenwood Clark Col, Wis, and whose affidavit is hencewith furnished.

ss/ Heinrich Decker

Subscribed and sworn to before me the day and date above named and I certify that I have no interest in the prosecution of thes (illegible)
