Obituary

Ruth G. Toburen, 83, Greenwood, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood. The Rev. Mark Schwin will officiate. Visitation will follow the service.

Ruth G. Humke was born Dec. 10, 1919, in the town of Warner, to George and Lelah (nee Sheets) Humke. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1936, and from the Neillsville Teachers' Training Department in 1937, She taught in the rural schools until 1944. She married Delmar Toburen on Aug. 24, 1944. They farmed in the town of Mead until 1972, when they sold their farm and moved to Greenwood. She was employed by the Greenwood Community School District in the remedial reading lab. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood, and was active in the ladies reading program at Greenwood Elementary School.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Toburen, and Judy (Dennis) Wiltgen; two sons, Ray Toburen and William (Phyllis) Toburen; five grandchildren, David (Jennifer) Wiltgen, Brian (Jennifer) Wiltgen, Bianca Toburen, Cale Toburen, and Bryce Toburen; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Wiltgen and Margaret Wiltgen; two sisters, Verona (Robert) Jackson and Jeanette (Glenn) Horn; two brothers, Paul (Rose Caryl) Humke and Irvin (Shirley) Humke; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Delmar; an infant son; her parents; and two brothers, George Humke Jr., and Harvey Humke.

Memorials May be given in her name to Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood; the Greenwood Public Library; or a charity of choice.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Correction: Mispelling on sister Verona (Robert Jackson) Ruth's Grandparents were Alonzo and Ida Davis Sheets Henry and Anna Kippenhan Humke. 

Delmar Toburen's parents were William and Anna Schmidt Toburen Ruth graduated from Greenwood High School in 1936 and from Neillsville Teacher's Training Department in 1937. She taught in the rural schools. She was also employed by the Greenwood Community School District in the Remedial Reading Lab Ruth was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood.
