Carlson, Otto (1895? - 19 Augl 1916)

An accident which cause the immediate death of Otto Carlson, a young man 21 years of age, living four miles northwest of Withee, Clark County, Wis., happened last Saturday morning at about eight o'clock, on the Fred Miller farm. Carlson came to his untimely death by being crushed between an engine and separator of a threshing outfit, which was preparing to leave the Miller farm that morning.

Carlson was engineer, and with him was Oscar Anderson, a young lad who was driving the tank wagon for the outfit. Carlson was steaming up the engine in preparation for moving to a nearby farm, where they were to work that day, and he with Anderson, tried to couple the engine…(some of my copy was cut off)… Carlson lost control of his engine and was pinned between his engine and the separator, his head being caught on the clutch lever and the carrier of the separator. His neck was broken and otherwise injured about the head and chest. Anderson, who was helping him, was slightly bruised about the chest, having one rib broken. No one saw the accident but Oscar Johnson, and he states that Carlson was a good man with an engine, having worked with the same outfit for the past three years.

Carlson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carlson of the town of Hixon, Clark County, and was a bright and highly respected young man. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Danish Lutheran Church in Withee, and burial made in the Danish Cemetery, Rev. Dixon officiating.
