Margaret Korth

Margaret Korth, born March 11, 1901 in Wausau passed away on July 30 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Margaret was a teacher from the age of 16 when she graduated from Marathon County Normal in Wausau.

She was married to Ernest Korth in 1924 in Spencer where they raised their three children, Virginia Dodgen of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marilyn Nicholas of Wichita, Kansas, and Del Korth of Fennimore, Wis.

Margaret and Ernie owned and operated the West Side Market in Neillsville for a number of years and she taught in the Neillsville area schools.

Margaret received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1960 from Wisconsin State College in Stevens Point.

When Margaret moved to Colorado Springs at the age of 69, she was still doing substitute teaching. While living in Brighton Gardens, she assisted care givers with math problems.

Margaret loved to travel and at the age of 77, she toured the world. She was always interested in world affairs and polotics. She never passed up her voting privilege until the age of 101, when she moved to Brighton Gardens.

Her husband Ernest died in 1975.

Survivors besides her children include a sister, Eva Henry of Brighton Gardens, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Stevens Point , Wisconsin Central State Teachers' College

In 1927 Stevens Point Normal School became Central State Teachers College and began offering four-year teaching degrees. When post-World War II enrollment became less centered on teacher training and more focused on liberal arts education, the Wisconsin State Legislature intervened, elevating the school to a Wisconsin State College with the authority to grant bachelor's degrees in liberal arts.
