Northern States Power Company will renews seven scholarships this year for sons and daughters of employees, and one will be renewed for an Abbotsford High School graduate, Paul L. Writz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Writz, who will be receiving his second scholarship.

While attending St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota, Writz was a member of the Pre-Med Club and maintained a high scholastic average in his pre-med course, which included biology, chemistry and Latin.

He plans to continue this course of study at St. John’s University, and will received a $500 scholarship to assist his studies.

Scholarships are awarded each year on a competitive basis to the NSP Employee’s Children Scholarship Program, and can be renewed for four years, contingent on satisfactory performance.

Monday evening the Abbotsford Lions Club held its installation ceremonies for new officers. Past District Governor Bill Johnson of Wisconsin Rapids was the guest speaker and in charge of installation. Participating in the ceremony were Bob Stacke, president; John Tremble secretary, Duane Hohlstein, past president; Mike Greaser, Director, Dave Hawks, tail twister; Dave Hargraves, treasurer; Jim Nehrlich, lion tamer; Bob Muller, Director; and Roger Thielman, director.
