Christie, James Orville (19 March 1935 – 30 March 2023)

James Orville Christie, born March 19, 1935, to Ernest and Christine (Kalkofen) Christie in the town of Eaton, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2023, holding the hand of his wife, Mary. Jim and Mary (Hilleshiem) were married for over 67 years.

Jim attended grade school at St. John’s Lutheran in Neillsville and graduated high school from Logan High in La Crosse. Jim retired in 1997 from Human Resources at La Crosse Footwear after 40 years of faithful service to the company.

For many years, Jim was a member of the Hatfield Sportsman Club and the Hatfield Snowmobile Club, and he was a Supervisor for the Town of Dewhurst.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and being outdoors with his family and friends, and always looked forward to his annual pheasant hunt with his kids and grandkids. He was able to deer hunt with his children, grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Jim enjoyed sports: yelling at the Packers on tv, watching games on tv with family and friends, and watching his grandkids play. His love for the game had him playing softball into his 60s. Jim and Mary enjoyed dancing, and his dance skills were well known.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary; 3 children Debra, Denyse (Peter), and Dan (Carrie); 7 grandchildren Eric (Rochelle), Amy (Seth), Kevin (Jennifer), Kaitlyn (Kyle), Lisa, Jeremy (Carrie), Lori; 13 great grandchildren Nate (Gabby), Nick (Ashley), Ian, Mac, Ellie, Jaedyn, Cooper, Moira, Elizabeth, Nolan, Silas, Julian, Zander; and 4 great-great grandchildren Wisdom, Nevaeha, Gracen, and Talon. He is also survived by 3 nieces and 4 great nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law Sharon and Irene.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Christine; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Carol Christie; nephew Michael Christie and grandson-in-law Nick Janz; brother- and sister-in-law Roger and Eileen Hellerud, and brother-in-law Gerald Hilleshiem.

Jim’s Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, North 6598 Cty Rd A, Black River Falls, WI. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service; a light lunch will follow the service. Burial will be at Hatfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s honor to Faith Lutheran Church in Black River Falls, the Kidney Foundation, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Hart, Rebecca Lynn (Birth – 7 February 1984)

Joe and Mary Hart, Rt. 1 Greenwood, became the parents of a daughter at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday, February 7. She was named Rebecca Lynn and weighed 7 lbs., 14 1/2 oz. She has one sister, Melissa. Her grandparents are Verland and Dolores Schmidt, Rt. 3 Neillsville, and Francis and Carolyn Hart, Rt. 1 Alma Center. The maternal great grandmothers are Mrs. Max Statz of Neillsville and Mrs. John Schmidt, of Loyal.

Carroll R. Kelley and Marcia Van Gorden, Minneapolis, Mn., became the parents of a son, Colin Carroll McCollough Kelley, at 6:08 a.m. January 19. He was born at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis. He has two brothers, Ian and Sean. The grandparents are Pink and Ruth Van Gorden of Neillsville and Carroll and Maud Kelley.

Joseph R. Pernsteiner, husband of the late Betty Pernsteiner, Rt. 1 Granton, announces the engagement of his daughter, Sue Marie Pernsteiner to Phillip Richard Backaus. LaGaisse, Renee Amber (11 February 1984)

Renee Amber LaGaisse, daughter of LaVerne and Cheryl La Gaisse of Humbird, and John Jay Anderson, son of John and Carol Anderson of Clintonville, were married Saturday, February 11, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Humbird.

The Rev. Donald King officiated. The music was provided by Nelda Stuve of Humbird. The bride’s attendants were her sisters, Carmen and Sharon LaGaisse of Rt. 1 Humbird. The groom’s attendants were his brother, Joe Anderson of Clintonville and Howie Sanders of Humbird.

Badger State Telephone (Awards - 1984)

Badger State Telephone Company recently honored those with 15 years of service with Telephone and Data System, Inc. at Neillsville. The employees were Dave Poehnlein, cable splicer; Dennis Shadrick, COE technician; and Ken Short, local manager. A service award and tie tack with emerald stone were presented to each employee by Stan Carbough, district manager.

Clark Co-Outstanding Young Women in America (1984)

Barbara Opelt, 1200 Grand Ave., Neillsville, and Patrice Marie Pakiz, now of Minneapolis but formerly of the Greenwood-Willard area, were recently selected for inclusion in the 1983 edition of “Outstanding Young Women in America.”

The honor is bestowed for women from ages 21 through 36 who have distinguished themselves in their home, professions or communities. There were 23,000 women from across the nation in the book.

Neillsville-Granton FFA (Banquet – 23 February 1984)

The Neillsville-Granton Future Farmers of American Alumni Chapters will host the annual Clark County FFA Alumni Banquet, Thursday February 23, at Clark County Sportsmen’s Club in Granton.

Tickets cost $5.50 each and must be purchased prior to February 18 from Wayne Opelt or Herman Seebandt, both of Neillsville, or from Tom Rohland or Francis Steiner, both of Granton.

The evenings activities will start at 7:30 p.m. with registration, a social hour and a cash bar. A family style chicken and ham dinner will be served at 8:29 p.m.

Heron Van Gorden, our local Assemblyman in Madison will be the featured speaker. The purpose of the FFA Alumni is to unite support for vocational agriculture education, strengthen the FFA and promote a greater knowledge of the agricultural industry at all levels. Membership is open to all, male or female. One need not have been an FFA member.

Schoenherr, Gerald C. (7 November 1927 – 13 February 1984) With Flag

Gerald C. Schoenherr, 56, Muskego died suddenly Monday, February 13, at New Berlin Memorial Hospital. Military services were held Wednesday, February 15, at Borgwardt Funeral Home, Muskego. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 20394 officiated. His body was then brought to Neillsville.

He was born November 7, 1927, in the Town of Weston to Herman and Helwig (Klueckmann) Schoenherr. He was educated in the Town of Weston and Neillsville schools. After his education, he worked in the Neillsville area for several years before entering the U.S. Army. He served in Korea from July 23, 1952, to July 10, 1954, where he earned the Korean Service Ribbon. After the service, he moved to the Milwaukee area where he worked as a carpenter for the rest of his life.

Schoenherr is survived by his mother of Neillsville; three sisters, Mrs. George (Victoria) Thoma and Mrs. Harold (Vivian) Thoma, both of Neillsville, and Lorraine Schoenherr of Waukesha; and one brother, Herman Schoenherr of Muskego. He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Henrietta; and one brother, Victor.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 17, at Gesche Funeral Home for Gerald C. Schoenherr. The Rev. Ralph Steubs will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening and Friday morning until the time of services. The burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Globe. The music accompanist was Betty Schultz. The pallbearers were Rick Thoma, Tim Thoma, Jeff Thoma, Franklin Mitte, Billy Mitte and David Hoppa.

Rapids; and Mrs. Richard Kessler, Greenwood.
