Peterson, John (22 JUN 1863 - 31 Jan 1927)

John Peterson, the well known and respected head sawyer for the John S. Owen Lumber Co., died Monday evening at his residence, the cause of his death being pernicious anemia. The funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Congregational Church, the Rev. W. P. Powell officiating, with interment at the Riverside Cemetery.

The deceased was born June 22, 1863, and at the age of fourteen he came to the U. S., settling at Black River Falls, where he worked in the lumber mills, leaving there when the vast timber holding gave way to farm lands. In the year 1892, he was married to Pauline Johnson at Prentice, and shortly afterwards moved to Sterling, Clark County, and was employed there until the removal of the mill to the present site at Owen, Clark County, Wis. To this union two sons, Oscar and Albin, were born, and in the year 1898 he was bereaved of his wife. In 1900 he again entered the bonds of matrimony, when he took Anna Martinson for his bride, and they were blessed with four daughters and one son, all of whom, with the widow, survived and mourn the loss of a husband and father.

Mr. Peterson began failing in health about a year ago, but his rugged constitution permitted him to rally sufficiently to continue his work as head sawyer up to Thursday night, at which time he was taken ill while at work and from which illness medical skill was baffled, and he passed off in a sleep, to that deep slumber from which there is no awakening her on earth.

All of the children, Oscar of Tomahawk, Albin of Seattle, Mrs. Myrtle Galvin of Chicago, Mrs. Anna Lewis of Milwaukee, Miss Hilda, who is a student at Downer, College, and John Jr. and Alice at home, are in attendance.

The deceased was a man of a quiet nature about town, an artisan at his employment, and one who had the respect of everyone.

The bereaved have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their great hour of sorrow.
