Horace Chris Vandeberg, 64, died September 18, 1953, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where he was taken September 9 following a stroke at his home. He suffered a second stroke September 13. Funeral services were held Monday, September 21, at the York Center Methodist Church with the Rev. Willard Mechlinberg officiating. Burial was in the Town of York Cemetery. Mr. Vandeberg was born May 22, 1889, to John and Lillie (Lawrence) Vandeberg in the township of York and was a lifelong resident of Clark County and the Town of York, whre he was engaged in farming. He received his education in the Oriole Hill School and was once a member of the school board. Mr. Vandeberg worked and lived on only two farms half a mile apart during his life - the place of birth and a farm he purchased before his marriage, which was his home at the time of his death. He was very active in community affairs. He was married to Fern Alton on June 18, 1914, at Neillsville. Five children were born to them. Surviving him besides his widow are one daughter, Mrs. Oscar (Bernice) Egger of Fond du Lac, and four sons - Harold of Neenah; Lloyd, Detroit; Gale, Appleton; and Russell on the home farm; also two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Ida) Voight, Neillsvile, and Mrs. Elmer (Ruth) Keller of Neillsville, and 10 grandchildren. His parents and two brothers, Alvin and Manley, preceded him in death. The body lay at the Georgas funeral home until Monday noon, when it was taken to the York Center Church for the final rites.
