Horel, Mr./Mrs. Isaac (Gold Anniv-13 Feb 1906)

On Feb. 13th, 1856, Mr. Isaac Horel and Miss Elizabeth Howard, both natives of England, were united in marriage in Waukesha Co., Wis., and in June of the same year came here (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.), settling on the farm which they yet occupy.

On Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1906, Mr. and Mrs. Horel celebrated their golden anniversary. They were completely surprised, when in the middle of the afternoon a dozen or more old friends and neighbors gathered at their home to assist them in remembering the happy occasion. The afternoon, after the two old people had fully recovered from their surprise, was passed in a good old fashioned visit such as only those have been through pioneer times can enjoy.

There was present at this anniversary, one who was also present at the wedding fifty years ago, Mr. W. H. Comes of Tomah. He is one of the very small number who have survived the ravages of time for half a century.

About four o'clock a regular marriage feast, which had been prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Horel's daughter, Mrs. James Wilson, was served to the party. Before departing for their several homes the guests left a small token in remembrance of the occasion for which they had gathered, in the shape of a gold coin, with Mr. and Mrs. Horel.

Those present were: Mrs. Henry Horel of Fall Creek; Mr. W. H. Comes of Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Campbell, Mrs. Robert Horel, Mr. and Mrs. Art Miller, Mr. and Mrs. E. Washburn, Mr. and Mrs. N. Colburn, Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson.
