Staves, Kenneth Alton (7 OCT 1902 - 19 JUNE 1950)

Funeral services are being held this afternoon (WED) for Kenneth Staves, 47 of Merrillan who died on Monday, June 19, 1950 at the Krohn Hospital where he had been brought the evening before. Services conducted by Rev. Arthur Gausmann are being conducted at the home and at the Merrillan Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Merrillan Cemetery. Mr. Staves died of a gunshot wound, suffered at his home between 7 and 8 pm Sunday. He lived about 12 hours. It is possible that a coroner's inquest will be held in the near future to determine the circumstances of his death.

Everyone was shocked to hear of the death of Kenneth Staves, Monday morning. Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Raymond Comstock of Milwaukee and one son, Dick Staves of Eau Claire and two grandchildren.

Staves, Kenneth Alton (7 OCT 1902 - 19 JUNE 1950)

Mr. Kenneth Alton Staves passed away at the hospital Monday, June 19, 1950 at the age of 47 years 8 months 12 days. He was the 5th child of George and Ida Staves. He was born Oct. 7, 1902 on a farm 4 miles west of Humbird in Jackson County. On Oct. 6, 1925 he married Rose Repplinger, also of Humbird. To this union were born two children. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Bernice, Mrs. Raymond Comstock of Milwaukee; one son, Richard of Eau Claire and two granddaughters; 4 brothers: Irvin of Fairchild, William and Donald of Humbird, Harry of Eau Claire, and one sister, Mrs. Steve Smith of Humbird. 18 nieces and nephews. Everett and Melvin Smith and Dudley Staves handled flowers. Pallbearers were Cyrus and Bob Comstock, Bob Hayden and Pete Reinart, Jim Sutton and Maynard Myhers.

Mr. Staves spent his entire life farming 10 miles west of Humbird, 7 years near Rochester, Minn. In 1943 they purchased the farm 1 mile south of Merrillan where he lived up to the event of his death. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Donald Staves and sons Duane, Claire, and Gordon; Mr. and Mrs. William Staves and daughter Beverly; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Smith and sons Everett and Melvin; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Staves; Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Staves; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Staves; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Staves; and Mr. and Mrs. George Staves.
