Delano, Thirza M. (11 OCT 1846 - 2 May 1919)

The funeral services for Mrs. Silas Delano, who died in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire on Friday morning, May 2, 1919, were held on Sunday afternoon. The remains were brought to the village (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.) Saturday noon, where a short service was held on Sunday at 1:30, and at the Methodist Church at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. J. B. Braddock preached the funeral sermon. An exceptionally large congregation assembled at the church to pay the last tribute of love and respect to the deceased. The Ladies Aid Society, of which she had long been an active member, attend the services in a body. Many autos formed the cortege that passed from the church to the Mentor Cemetery, where she was laid at rest in the family lot. Pallbearers were her five sons-in-law, Fred Hart, Leonard Cole, Charles Bollom, W. A. Fradenburg, C. J. Noyes, and one grandson, Glenn Hart.

To her the struggle and burden bearing of earth has ended, and those who knew her best confidently trust and believe that like one who awakes from a trouble dream she has awakened to see life's endless morning break and knows herself at home with all the vast throng of loved ones, missed from earth, safe about her.

And so she has fought the good fight of faith, she has finished her course. Henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of life in heaven that lies just beyond. On earth there is left a mourning circle of relatives and friends, whose grief is lessened by the faith in her safe arrival home, and whose loving remembrance will keep her memory hallowed.

Thirza Matilda Eggleston was born on a farm near Milwaukee Oct. 11, 1846, and died at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, May 2, 1919. With her husband she came to Clark county nearly fifty years ago, and has been a resident of Humbird over thirty years. She joined the Methodist Church in her girlhood and has been a member of the same for fifty-five years. She leaves a husband, Mr. Silas Delano of this place, and four daughters, Mrs. Leonard Cole of Sherry, Mrs. Charles Noyes of Humbird, Mrs. Fred Hart and Mrs. Charles Bollom of Granton, on daughter having preceded her in death five years ago, also ten grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Mina Smith of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. Libbie Duncan of Campbellsport.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were: Mrs. Mina Smith, Waterloo, Iowa; L. P. Snyder, Mrs. M. L. Snyder, Miss Estelle Snyder, Mr. and Mrs. George Begley of Neillsville; Mrs. Thomas Sliter of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Curry and Miss Mabel Bollom of Osseo.
