Bernitt, William Jr. (13 JUL 1928 - 6 MAY 2014)

William "Bill" Bernitt Jr., 85, town of Chelsea, died on Tuesday, May 6 at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen, where he had resided the past five years. Per his request, no services will be held at this time.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

William Bernitt Jr. was born on July 13, 1928 in Milwaukee to the late William and Elizabeth A. (Hirsch) Bernitt Sr. He attended Medford area schools.

He married Patricia Brandner, and they later divorced.

He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. He was a heavy machine operator for Peterson Construction in Medford all of his life. He was also a caregiver for his daughter, Sheryl, for many years.

He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 139. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, mechanical work and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include four children, Greg Bernitt of Wisconsin, and Sheryl Bernitt, Kathy (Robert) Harris and Pam (Bryan) Kennedy, all of Medford; a sister-in-law, Margaret Bernitt of Michigan; six grandchildren, Casey Voss, Nikki (Will) Sherman, Bradley (Megan) Harris, Hunter Bernitt, Gunner Bernitt and Lizzie Bernitt; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Robert Bernitt, and a sister, Violet Liske.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date.
