*Until 1901, Big Bend was part of Chippewa County. But with the help of land owner J. L. Gates of Milwaukee, the northern twenty-four townships were separated from Chippewa County and the new county of Gates was created and born, being the last and the youngest of the 71 counties to be added to the state of Wisconsin. Then again in 1905, the Legislature changed the name to Rusk County after Jeremiah Rusk, former governor of Wis.

Obit: Adams, Sarah Joann Wilson (8 Ap 1859 - 9 Jun 1952)

Sarah Joanne (Wilson) Adams, the daughter of Nathan Dodd Wilson and Helen Miriah (Coler) Wilson died in Marcola, Lane County, Oregon 9 Jun 1952.  She was the wife of the Civil War Veteran, William Fletcher Adams, at Webster, Vernon, Wisconsin 4 Jan 1880.  They first lived in Avalanche, Webster, Vernon Co., Wisconsin

They were blessed with five children;

1. John W Adams Son M 20 (Oct 1880) Wisconsin, farm laborer
2. Elizabeth A Adams Daughter F 16 (Apr 1884) Wisconsin, at school

3. James P Adams Son M 11 (Jul 1889) Wisconsin, at school

4. Robert M Adams Son M 6 (Sep 1893) Wisconsin, at school

5. This fifth child was not listed and was likely *"Dollie Adams" who was institutionalized at the Wisconsin Home for Feeble Minded, Chippewa, Wisconsin, United States.

The family moved to Big Bend, Chippewa Co., Wisconsin before the 1900 USA Census was taken. Our guess is that  Dollie was placed in the new  "Wisconsin Home for the Feeble-minded" which opened June 17, 1897 .  By the time of the 1905 Wisconsin State Census, Rusk County had in part been formed from the Big Bend region of Chippewa County, Wisconsin and the change can be seen in the 1900 and 1905 Census documentation.  After William passed away, Sarah Joann moved to West to reside with her daughter and died on 9 June 1952 in Marcola, Lane County, Oregon
