Janet,

Thank you so much for posting this article. I found it while doing a search for my great-grandfather. It has very special meaning to me. As a child I attended this church many times while visiting my grandparents, Mark LaRoy Felix and Cora Mae (Patten) Felix. I learned many of my favorite hymns here and also attended vacation Bible school and ice cream socials.

Your article is full of mentions of my ancestors and things I didn't know about them. John Patten, the minister, was my grandmother's uncle and performed the marriage of my grandparents. Mr and Mrs Joe Felix, who donated the land for the church and cemetery were my great-grandparents as was Milton Patten who helped make the handmade pews. The first person buried in the cemetery, Archie Felix was my grandfather's brother and they were swimming together the day Archie drowned, My grandfather tried unsucessfully to save his brother and was almost drowned as well.

I remember when the church was destroyed by the tornado because I saw the destruction when I went with my dad to help make repairs on my grandparents house which had been moved off it's foundation.(This was the farm to the left of the church) I was 14 years old at the time.

The memorial marker that was erected in 1975 was made by my uncle, Kenneth Felix and he and my Grandmother were in attendance when the marker was dedicated. There probably were other family members present at the time but I am not sure of that. I can recall seeing pictures taken at the dedication.

Bessie Manier and my grandmother were good friends.

Again, thank you so much for posting this article and adding to information about my family and bringing back so many wonderful memories for me.

Yours truly,

Audrey (Baier) Doll
