Mandel, Ernest (2 Feb. 1872 - 6 Aug. 1950)

Colby - Ernest Mandel, 78, died at 10:15 a.m. today at his home in Colby. Death was attributed to pneumonia. He had suffered a heart attach in May, and had been confined to his bed since that time.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Otto Hoffmann officiating.

The body is reposing at the Lulloff Funeral Home.

Mr. Mandel was born Feb. 2, 1871, in Mishicot, and came to the Town of Green Grove at the age of 22. He was married to Celia Kademan, June 24, 1899, in Colby. They resided on a farm there until 1907, when he bought a cheese factory in the Town of Colby, which he operated for 30 years.

While in the cheese business, Mr. Mandel won three first prizes on Colby Cheese at the state cheesemakers’ convention in Milwaukee. He also invented the Mandel agitator, which he patented and later sold to Damrow Brothers of Fond du Lac.

In 1926 he retired and moved to the City of Colby.

He is survived by his wife, three children, Albert, and Mrs. Alfred Dins, Colby; and Harry, Unity; six grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Emma Lauber, Mrs. Sophie Bernhardt, Julius Mandel, and Erwin Mandel, Two Rivers; Mrs. Ida Schumann, Fort Atkinson; Albert Mandel, Fremont, Neb.; and Fred Mandel, Gregory, S. D.

*Buried in the St. Paul Cemetery, Colby Township, Clark County, Wis.
