White, James P. (16 NOV 1844 - 28 MAY 1905)

Put. White, one of the early settlers of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., who has been suffering with dropsy for more than a year, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Dillon in Abbotsford, early Sunday morning, May 28th, 1905, in the 61st year of his age.

James Putnam White was born in McKean Co., Penn., Nov. 16th, 1844; came to Wisconsin with his parents in 1854, settling on a farm in Adams Co., where he made his home until the fall of 1872, when he came to Colby with his brothers, N.J. and J.N., and took up a homestead in the town of Hull. Hew as married in 1893 to Miss Nellie Dillon of Abbotsford and in 1897 removed to Fifield, where he resided until last August when, on account of the disease which caused his death, he returned with family and was cared for at the Commercial until recently when he went to Abbotsford to stay with his wife’s parents.

Put was an honest, upright man and respected by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn him, his wife and son Russell, two brothers, N.J. of this city and J.N. of Rhinelander, other relatives and hosts of friends.

The funeral was held from the M.E. Church in this city Wednesday afternoon, and the remains laid at rest in Colby Cemetery.
