Subke, John F. (3 Aug. 1852 - 28 Feb. 1935)

John F. Subke, for 38 years a farmer in the town of Levis, passed away at his home in that town Thursday, Feb. 28, 1935, after an illness of about three weeks.

He had reached the age of 82 years, 6 months and 28 days.

Mr. Subke was born in Pommern, Germany, Aug. 3, 1852, later coming to America; he settled in Chicago where on June 16, 1883, he was united in marriage to Christine Jensen. In 1897 they came to Clark County and settled on land in the town of Levis, which they developed into their present farm home.

Mr. Subke was a man of quiet habits, honest and upright in character, an industrious worker and respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his widow and five children: William D., of Los Angeles, Calif.; Henry, of Eau Claire; Louise (Mrs. Chas. Luck) of Neillsville; Ernest, of Portland, Ore., and Fred on the home farm. He leaves also eight grandchildren, two brothers, Walter of Los Angeles; and Charles of Canada; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Schoenhoff, in Chicago.

Funeral services were held at the Lowe Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.

JOHN SUBKE FUNERAL HELD

Many attended the funeral of John Subke in Neillsville Sunday afternoon. His death followed a short illness from heart trouble and other complications. His family were with him the last few days of his illness and all did all that could be done to comfort him, but his age was long past the allotted, three score and ten and he passed on to his reward Thursday morning at 3 o’clock.

Mr. Subke came to Clark County nearly 40 years ago and by the help of his good wife and a large amount of thrift and industry made a good home and cleared a farm which was all timber when they came here. He is survived by his wife, who with him celebrated their golden wedding about four years ago, also four sons, William of Los Angeles, Calif.; Ernest, of Portland, Ore.; Henry, of Eau Claire, and Fred, on the home farm, also one daughter, Mrs. Charles Lueck, of Neillsville, Wis. Two brothers, Walter in Los Angeles, Calif.; and William in Canada; and a sister; Mrs. Louis Schoenhoff, of Chicago, and eight grandchildren. Mrs. Schoenhoft was the only one from a distance able to be present. He will be greatly missed in his home and was respected by his neighbors as an honest and obliging neighbor.
