Collins, Daniel W. (4 FEB 1821 - 15 FEB 1907)

Daniel W. Collins died at the home of his son Willis, in Anoka, Minn., on Friday, Feb. 15th, aged 86 years and 11 days.

Deceased was born at Vernon, Connecticut, Feb. 4th, 1821. When a young man he was one of the first who worked at the Carpenter trade in East New York, when it was a mere village. In Brooklyn, on Nov. 24th, 1842, he was united in marriage with Thirza Martin. In 1853 he came with his family to Racine Co., Wis., settling in the town of Caledonia, about nine miles from the city of Racine, where he resided for thirty years. During this period Daniel W. Collins enlisted in Co. G 43rd Wis. Regt., on Sept. 2nd, 1864, and served his country faithfully until the close of the war, when he was honorably discharged from the service. In May 1883 he removed to Colby, Clark Co., Wis. and resided here for twenty years and was an ever respected citizen in this community, and all will truly say a good man has gone to his just reward. In the summer of 1902 he moved to Anoka, Minn., with his son Willis and family, where he resided until his death.

Besides his son Willis, he leaves to mourn his loss, two brothers and two sisters, C.J. Collins and Mrs. E.J. Hulett of Minneapolis, L.W. Collins of Chicago, and Mrs. H.E. Greene of Racine; four grandchildren, A.W. Collins of Minneapolis, Mrs. Effie Wiedenhoeft and the Misses Hattie and Nellie Collins of Anoka.

The funeral services were held at the residence in Anoka on Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, and the remains arrived here Wednesday morning for interment in Colby Cemetery, beside those of his wife, who died in this city, Aug. 6, 1898. The burial services were under the auspices of I.N. Earl Post, G.A.R., of which order deceased was a member.
