Mrs. Henry Bethe, a former resident of Neillsville, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee on Friday, Nov. 1. Funeral services were held there on the Tuesday following, at St. Mathews Church in Milwaukee, Rev. Hallboth officiating.

As it has been the requet of the deceased to be buried in Neillsville, the body was brought here and brief services held the next day at two o’clock at the home of Mrs. Bethe’s sister, Mrs. W. F. Hemp, Rev. Wm. Baumann officiating at the home, and Rev. Wm. Schulz at the cemetery. Mrs. Bethe, whose maiden name was Alvina Lantz, was the daughter of Mrs. Johanna Kearney deceased. She was born in Germany, Jan. 22, 1878. When she was a young girl her parents came to this country and settled in Neillsville, Wis.

On Dec. 21, 1901, she was married to Henry Bethe. They went to Milwaukee, which has ever since been her home. She leaves to mourn her death a son, Elmer Bethe, Milwaukee, auditor for the First Wisconsin National Bank; a daughter Elva, Mrs. Harley Klitzkie of Sullivan, Wis., also two brothers Wm. K. Lantz, of Green Bay, Wis., and A. W. Kearney, Merrillan, two sisters, Mary Kearney, Milwaukee and Mrs. Wm. F. Hemp, Neillsville; also six grandchildren.

At the burial services here the following acted as pallbearers; Fred Hemp, F. P. Hemp, Ernest Hemp, Wm. Nenutz, John L. Walk, Art Berger.

Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hernke and daughter Beatrice, Milwaukee; Wm. H. Lantz, Green Bay; Fred Lantz, and Mary Kearney, Milwaukee; Mrs. Martha Runge, Appleton.

Mrs. Bethe was long a member of the Lutheran Church and an active worker in the Ladies’ Aid and sang in the choir. There still remain many who know her when she lived here and mourn her death.
