Helf, Harvey (18 JAN 1895 - 13 MAR 1910)

Harvey Helf, 15 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Helf, who reside on the old Cade farm, north of the city in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., was instantly killed, last Sunday forenoon, while playing logger on a rollway of logs at his home. Mrs. Helf and two daughters were at church, and Mr. Helf was attending to his chores at the barn, so there were no witnesses to the accident. Not seeing the boy around when he returned from the barn, Mr. Helf supposed he had gone to church with the others. Soon after he had occasion to go out the rear door and then discovered his son wedged in the log pile with a large birch log across his head and body and life extinct. He still held a canthook in one hand which he had evidently been attempting to roll a log and got caught by the same with the above results.

Harvey Helf was born at Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis., Jan. 18th, 1895, and was an exceptionally bright boy. He was attending school at Zion Lutheran Church in this city, and was to have been confirmed soon after Easter. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their deep sorrow.

The funeral was held from Zion Lutheran Church, Wednesday forenoon, conducted by Rev. Carl Witschonke, the pastor, and the remains taken to Dorchester for burial in the family lot.
