Schaeffner, Irma M. (17 AUG 1935)

A romance begun at Wessington Springs S. D. came to a fitting culmination at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Schaeffner Saturday, Aug, 17 at 2:00 P. M. in the presence of about 50 relatives and friends when their youngest daughter, Irma Mae, became the bride of Rev. J. Elliot Hollister of Huron S. D.

To the strains of the wedding march played by Mrs., Ed. Schaeffner, aunt of the bride, the wedding party, led by Rev. Hazel Galbraith and little June Ellis, dainty in yellow taffeta and carrying a basket of garden flowers, gathered around the beautiful blue and white altar set in a profusion of garden flowers in the living room where the sacred words were spoken by Rev. Garbaith that made the happy couple man and wife.

The bride was attired in white crepe with a shower and shoulder bouquet of roses. She was attended by the groom’s sister, Beth Hollister who wore blue crepe and carried sweet peas. The groom was attended by Mr. Joe Davis of Granton, cousin of the bride.

After the wedding the time was spent socially until seven o’clock when a two-course dinner was served by four intimate friends of the bride, Hulda and Hazel Snider, Helen Stuve of Humbird and Marion Gilbert.

The bride has grown to womanhood in the vicinity of Loyal, is a graduate of the Loyal High School. Following graduation she spent a year as a student worker at Olive Branch mission in Chicago and then spent two years at the Free Methodist college in Wessington Springs, S. D., and it was here she met her future husband who is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hollister of Huron, S. D. He is a graduate of Gettysburg, H. S. and also has been a student at the Wessington Springs college. The Free Methodist Conference which just closed appointed him as pastor of work near Huron, S. D. The woman he has chosen to be his helper in his life work is well qualified to fill the position as a minister’s wife. All who met the groom were impressed by his sincerity and their many friends wish for their success in their life’s labor for others.

The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson of Black River Falls, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Holister and daughters Eva and Beth of Huron, S. D., and Miss Helen Stuve and brother of Humbird.

Two showers were held in honor of the young people, one on Tuesday evening by the Free Methodist congregation and one on Friday evening by the neighbors. Many beautiful and useful gifts were received. They left Monday driving through to their new home.

The Tribune joins the newly weds in wishing them many years of wedded life.

Irma and J.E. Hollister were my parents. My father, Dr. James E. Hollister passed away April 11, 2001. My mother, Irma Mae Hollister passed away February 9, 2008. Two finer people have never graced this earth. They were both educators and as such were mentors to hundreds of young folks throughout their lives. They touched many lives and are sorely missed. They are both buried in Greenville, IL, where they lie side by side for eternity.

This is my mother. The prior poster is my brother Carl. Sadly, my mother passed away on February 9, 2008 at the age of 93. She is buried next to my father, Dr. J. E. Hollister in Greenville, IL.
