The many friends of W.J. Clifford were greatly shocked Monday evening, when the announcement of his death at 6 o’clock that evening was made. He had been in declining health for some time, but had been able to be up and about the city up to last Wednesday, when he developed a cold and was compelled to remain indoors. He had only been confined to his bed for the past two days and that was more at the request of his physician than on account of his ailment. No fear for his recovery had been entertained up to late Monday afternoon, when an attack of heart failure developed and he passed away at the hour above stated. He was born in Ireland on March 10th, 1834, coming to this country several years later.
